This is the farthest I ever got. I know it's not good but there's so much detail >.>. I do this with alot of photos just to get a hang of it. I can use the pen tool, i just suck at knowing what to fill in. Tips, pointers, comments appreciated.

Stylize --> Find Edges may help you differentiate your colors on your master layer.
Also, it is the cheap way into vector, but if used as a guide, live trace your image in Illustrator (Object --> Tracing Options) and adjust the parameters there so you can get a decent idea as to where you would need to pen tool.
