use armor fightin monsters save money on pots

So if i get the hawk from archer skill and summon it with my bow weapon and switch to glaive would i still get the effects of the bird??

I couldn't find any post of this at all, Who actually uses it?. Im a pure int/spear/thunder character can anyone tell me is it worth investing in?. I'm Looking at wall's final lvl (sorry don't know the skill name lol) 4k hp worth of protection that caught my eye. Wouldn't it be useful for pvp wise?....
