Latest client won't install in Wine
Hey, For some reason I keep getting the "can be used after the Legend 4.5 update" message when trying to launch the installer. I've tried the following: - Wine 1.1.20, 1.1.28 and 1.1.29 - Added 121.128.133.26 gwgt1.joymax.com, 121.128.133.27 gwgt2.joymax.com and 121.128.133.13 silkroadonli...

Re: Playing SRO from a bootable USB stick - who's interested?
I think the persistent changes are mostly user data. The system mounts a second partition on the drive read/write so you can save data. It might allow you to save changes in other places, like /etc, but I think some of the files are generated on the fly. For example, it seems (without a lot of clos...

Re: Playing SRO from a bootable USB stick - who's interested?
Yes CrunchBang is working nicely. The only issue I have with it is it doesn't save all of my configuration settings. This is most likely because of it being based on a LiveCD. I have the OS on a 2 gig thumbdrive, and SRO on a separate 4 gig thumbdrive. So I had to create an entry in /etc/fstab to a...

Hehe cool to see you keep working on it.
Crunchbag is a nice base (especially the Lite version) for that purpose, though it might be possible to go even deeper:

Np... Just curious, when you installed Ubuntu as dualboot, what installation option did you choose? Is it on the same disk as windows?

BTW, I'd turn Indexing off... too much of a performance hog for the benefits it brings. Windows 7 beta is just that, a beta, I wouldn't bother (besides, correct me if I'm wrong but there is a time limit on it, so a definite no-no for daily usage). Assuming it's genuine, keep your XP license for your...

Re: Playing SRO from a bootable USB stick - who's interested?
I've been very interested in doing this lately. I tried it about 2 months ago using PendriveLinux. I already had PendriveLinux installed on a 2 gig thumb drive, so I configured it to automount a second USB drive (4GB) that contained the Silkroad files. It ran SLOW! I don't think I even got into the...

Re: Playing SRO from a bootable USB stick - who's interested?
The beef is the SRO installation really (takes 2.3 gigs here + 900 MB download).
A clean 4 GB stick would be enough I guess.

Re: Playing SRO from a bootable USB stick - who's interested?
An idea, for now... Honestly, I'm merely an enthusiastic Linux user, not quite reached the stage where I can create a distribution from scratch but that could be a good reason to look into it. There are similar projects out there already, like this Live DVD to play quite a bunch of Linux games . Als...

Playing SRO from a bootable USB stick - who's interested?
Since there is a thread about running SRO through Wine in Ubuntu here , which has had quite a few views and replies, I was wondering: Who would like to have roughly the same, but on a bootable USB key? Here's how that would work: You get a stripped down GNU/Linux distribution on a USB stick, with Wi...

Re: Silkroad on Linux Ubuntu. -20/9/08 Update-
Hi, Nice guide, though a bit too simplistic IMO (then again that's the most straight forward method to start playing ASAP). I would like to mention that the latest release of Ubuntu (8.10, code name Intrepid Ibex) has an updated ATI binary driver available (the ones you install from the Proprietary ...

In case you've missed it, an article about bots in SRO
m (I've only done a quick seach om SRF, my apologies if it's old news.) Not much new for most of us, still nice to see more general public MMO-related websites getting aware of this. Also quite amazing that it took only 3 users answers for first signs of flamewar to show up. Or should I say, quite a...

The idea of an auction house is nice though:
- With the fairly recent addition of stall network, I don't see that happening in the near future (technically I would guess an auction house requires quite a bit of work)
- The spots freed up in the process would most probably be taken at once by bots

Re: Why being Legit is better than Botting
Nice explanation. Too bad it ends up in deaf ears, since those who should be concerned 1. don't read SRF or 2. won't understand or 3. won't care or 4. will probably not be bothered about the land owner complaining the grass is lacking as long as at least one shepherd pays the acre tax or 5. a mix of...

Re: Anti-Bot thingy
We trapped the entire city of Jangan last night. That is the solution. Yes and no. It may make a small dent in the bot companies' revenues and it's probably the only active way to interfere with their grinding, however it should not be the players' duty to do JM's work, while still paying them. The...

For those using Linux:
To set affinity, launch SRO, and check its PID.
Open a terminal and type:
taskset -cp 1 <SRO's PID>
You should get e.g.:
pid 8094's current affinity list: 0,1
pid 8094's new affinity list: 1
Done! (till you have to restart the client, that is)

Re: European players and connection performance - How's yours?
There is something that could help a bit:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328890/
Yesterday I followed the instructions in there, and for the first time in a while, the game was actually playable. Not blazing responsive, but at least fairly enjoyable. I'd have to test some more to make sure it wasn't a one-time lucky draw.
