Sword and shield most definitely. Since you're a hybrid and don't have max HP due to your lack of strength, you need a shield to compensate for that with its blocking and extra blues. A spear hybrid can get dropped so fast with lower HP and no block ability.

This is again partially true..... yes when you hit a crit you'll maybe do more dmg on a devil cut then a lion shout. But only then.. devil cut does less dmg then the lion shout. I say go for both. Yeah, the shield blocks more damage than 1000 health you'd get from heuksal, but that heuksal helps you from criticals done to you, otherwise you'd have a chance to die in one hit.

Damage of a spear is overkill, IMO, at least speaking up to level 60ish monsters, no idea on higher stuff. I have absolutely no problem killing things 7-12 levels higher than me faster than non-underhunting one-shot nukers while using only a sword and shield.

Get heaven chain, it rocks and does more dmg than my fire nuke. By the time you fire off your opening nuke shot, the monster will be in melee range so instead of firing off a 2nd boring nuke, finish off in style.

Psssh, chains for INT are awesome. KD+stab is boring and I only use the 2nd mass knockdown book when swarmed. Heaven chain deals more damage than my book 2 fire nuke.

I could kill just fine with it at only 1 rank. Both book 1 and book 2 are at 1 rank each for me. I'm only gonna raise book 3 to max, but maybe book 2 later on since I decided to not both with any lightning nukes so a 2nd as backup would be nicer.

Go for the survivability. You only need the high dmg for PvP thanks to stupid potions. For monsters, you'll have no problem with the lower dmg dealt by a sword. Only takes me a nuke and a heaven chain to kill a yeti at lvl 52, and add a devil cut to that to kill a worm. What low dmg?
